BOSTON (CBS) – It’s another glimpse of the mobster on the run, and not so sophisticated when you look at the flimsy fake IDs. The many aliases used by Whitey Bulger over 16 years were released on Wednesday after being unsealed in federal court.
They were found in the Santa Monica apartment where he was captured in June.

“He has the same kind of lousy IDs used by most people who hide from the law,” said radio talk show host Howie Carr, who has written two books on Whitey Bulger. Carr says the mobster could stuff his pockets with them as added protection.

The indictment handed down against his girlfriend Catherine Greig suggests someone helped him make them, easy enough.
“He’s just there to give you a crappy piece of identification you give to a cop when he stops you,” said Carr.
There’s a medical alert card claiming Bulger is a diabetic, a New York state resident card, a fake Social Security card, and an employee ID, though the company isn’t clear. There’s even an AARP card.
“Like the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, AARP always gets their man,” said Carr. “Once you turn 50 you can’t escape no matter what you do.”
The cards were released by the FBI the day before Catherine Greig returns to court for a detention hearing facing charges she harbored a fugitive and helped Bulger avoid capture.
